Description
HARVEST
2011 produced a bigger crop in general, but after vigorous bunch selection we ended with similar yields to 2010’s harvest. August 2010 was unexpectedly warmer than usual, thus bud burst occurred about 10 days earlier, yet still evenly. The growing season commenced with cool weather and some showers, which required intervention to reduce potential disease impact. Dryer conditions from November onwards resulted in smaller and more concentrated berries.

COLOUR
This wine has a deep ruby center with a bright brick red edge.

NOSE
An intense nose filled with berry sensations which complements the magnificent fruit and extracts of peppery spice.

PALATE
Strong on the palate with rich entry of ripe red berry fruits. The middle palate is full and shows width with complexity and depth leading to a full dry finish. Wood tannins are present and balanced combining well with those of the fruit.

WINEMAKER’S NOTES
These grapes were selected from distinct parcels with varying soil types.  This complexity in growing has resulted in a wonderful intricacy in the wine. The grapes were picked at optimal ripeness to enable the correct balance between sugar and phenolic components. Individual varieties were bunch and berry sorted, crushed and destalked to tank. Fermentation was initiated after 3 days cold soaking. Minimal additions were made to preserve the true cultivar characters of the grapes and to minimize the man-made impact on the wine. After careful blending trials and numerous test tastings the final blend combined a variety of batches each contributing in its own unique way to make this a balanced, expressive and fruit driven wine. The wine was matured in French oak barrels for 22 months. 20% new oak and 80% 2nd and 3rd fill barrels.
