Description
De Toren has some plots on the high hills of Stellenbosch. These are ventilated by a cooling sea breeze, this wind the South Africans call Zephyr, which has popularly abbreviated Zee. This "Zee" is the name giver for the De Toren Z. The soils in this area are very strongly characterized by granite and stones.
The cuvée "Z" was produced from Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot. After the classic maceration, the wine was aged for about 12 months in French oak barriques. The very nice nose shows aromas of cassis, cherries, blackberries, tobacco, espresso, chocolate, some juniper and violets. The palate is fleshy, powerful elegance, complex, dense and spicy fruit, fine wood, juicy, very velvety and long lasting.
